Gillian
Fitzgerald, PhD

Postdoctoral Researcher
Onkologie

Gillian completed a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry with additional specialization in anatomy and cell biology at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. She then moved to Switzerland where she completed her master’s degree in the Department of Health Science and Technology at the ETH Zürich. During her master thesis she investigated the role cellular nutrient and oxygen sensing in regulating protein synthesis and the development of muscle mass. She then continued her research at ETH in the Lab of Exercise and Health during her PhD where she identified and characterized a subpopulation of muscle derived progenitor cells which have an increased propensity to differentiate into adipocytes.
